Weeks of blurry eyes, taking photos to fill stories of dreams, sleeping through my days and living walking through my sleeps...

I've put together an exhibition on this Thursday the 5th November, for others to join me in this state of dancing through the dots. A big photography exhibition (as tall as me on tippi toes) at Sugarmill Stairwell Gallery (more info on invite above) in conjunction with Abosolute Vodka. A music inspired collection, with Murals by Numskull and Roach, and for THE LAUNCH NIGHT ONLY, the whole top floor will also be decked out in prints, with music by Nicky Night Time, Strickmachine, Strace and Holiday Sidewinder.
Come eat, drink, look, listen, as the images walk off the screen.

This month jumped off for us with This Is Not Art. We bathed in the sights and sounds, and returned with new knowledge, field recordings and bikes. Thank you, TINA, for being amazing once more.

Best performance of October, however, goes to Kirin J. Callinan. His live album recording at the Russian Coachmen was an incredible night. Truly, truly beautiful music. (The food was also good, and much easier to photograph.) Kirin has a zillion dates coming up over the next month, so I'd advise that you see him as many times as humanly possible.

Aside from this excitement, the last month has meant lots of mixing (for the secret recording project previewed last month) and making a couple of aesthetic adjustments to our instruments.

November: a quick welcome home to Vivian before No Art hit the garage for some real, serious recording with Frey Lindsay and Ivan Vizintin, of Ghoul fame. We're also playing a show or two in between, details here.

No update from me last month as I was over in the US... LA, New York, Portland... dream holiday! This month I've been kept busy directing a TVC for 'Ministry of Sound'. The shoot was a whole lot of fun and incorporated dancing, animation and UV lights and was shot on site in Studio 9. Kevina took some great behind the scenes photos which will be posted next blog update. In the meanwhile, here are some random snaps from my travels...

The past month was about windows for me..

1st for Mrs. Press Dressing Room in Darlinghurst.
I used fabric scraps from her most current collection to create a little world in the window.
Photography Cara Stricker....a body of water with water reeds and water birds for the pieces from the collection to float above.
2nd for Belinda MLC in the city, with the Dries Van Noten Fall 2009 collection.

Thank-you to Christopher Samuel and Grant Keats from Studio 5 Yeah Yeah!!! for helping me with photography and graphic design. Chris photographed pieces I chose with bold prints from the collection and Grant helped me compile everything ready for the printer.

Both were extremely hard to photograph due to serious reflection issues and lack of time... but thank-you to Cara for following me around with her camera.

No Art have been running wild over the last month, with more shows and a recording for ABC radio.

First up, the show at MUM. Ghoul were amazing as always, and In The Dollhouse get a special mention for their breed of discontent. This photo shows you nothing, but at least our dream-web and gear look pretty sitting alongside the silver kit.

Even Books #10 was a whole different kettle of fish. Thanks to Angela for having us - we loved every second of it.
More stunning images of the evening from Will Reichelt.

Supper Club with Jack Cowell and the Owls:
Again, this photo is not indicative, but we liked the velvet curtain.

Our recording at ABC is still a little bit of a secret, sorry. Here's some behind-the-scenes shots to tide you over until we break the news.
September involves New York, a small Irish village and London-town adventures for Vivian; while Trish and Charles will journey forward right here. We're also introducing some art into Uncharted, so vote if you like it.

Also a small snap of 5 paper cities that I made for a Harpers Bazaar jewellery shoot which was fun....
Tight deadline as always, but I love these little jobs you do that are quick and enjoyable.
Can you name the cities?

That red dust storm got everywhere through me paper stuff which is a bit of a bummer...
Im currently working on some paper wings for an upcoming installation... Exciting!
See you there

No Art have been busy like crazy, with new songs, shows, CDs, a photoshoot and general merriment. We've even remembered to collect evidence. (Just don't expect this every month.)

Our show with friends Ghoul and the Spheres at Dirty Shirlows was a little bit amazing. We love you!
But possibly even more, this dog loved Charles and his pizza.
This night was also the debut of our amazing new creature web, courtesy of brilliant artist/BJB creator Kevina-Jo Smith. Could that red velvet and pot plant be more perfect? Talk about a stage...Our show at Spectrum was also an excellent evening. Sadly, technical issues prevented Karoshi from playing, but we promise to join forces with him again soon... As for the other two crews, we can't decide who won: I Like Cats with their hilarity vs. cinematic brilliance, or Indian Ocean with their sneaky debut and the best African mix tape DJ set one is ever likely to hear. Here's some epic photos of us 'doing it'.
Kevina outdid herself, decorating the stage with odds and ends from all corners of her magical studio, as well as creating legs for us and amoeba-like CD art (even if these didn't stay up on the wall for long).
Kevina and Jefske also worked hard this month to transport us to the fifth dimension. Thank you both, you are the most amazing artist friends ever! Here's a peek.
Thank you x one billion to everyone who came to shows, got drunk and yelled things out. Come back and do it again sometime. For your efforts, one final treat: a mix. Download here.

More to come next month and forever. Watch out.

Greedy Hen are also currently having an art exhibition in Brisbane, which can be gazed upon until september 5th at Metro Arts Gallery, and at The Power House Museum where we're showing some limited edition sets of hand painted crockery for Design Week.

Benjamin Tuffy

The past 4-6 weeks has been quite simply, fun. Though it has been sad not being around the office of BJB full time, it’s been rad catching up with old colleagues and friends and in many ways reliving my youth, here’s how the super tour through June and July has played out…

Through most of June and into the early weeks of July, I was remembering the golden times of early morning fruit loop cereal sessions in front of the TV set for a another dose for Agros cartoon connection, these and many other childhood memories alike being triggered as I Art Directed the launch of a Mr. Men, Little Miss Magazine for the ABC. The first one of it’s kind over it’s 30 year history, set to hit the shelves on the 18th August, the publication has been been a huge success in its development. It has been an honor to be working with Roger Hardgrave’s original work, characters and vision.

The next step down memory lane had my mind jumping tree’s and trails mountain biking through the national park in the south of Sydney in my teenage year’s, as I designed pages for the absent Art director on Australian Mountain Bike Magazine. This was somewhat more nostalgic considering AMB was where my time in publishing design began many years ago.

Full steam into July, I spent the month re-living my late teens and early twenties again, with the lads on Australia’s leading men’s magazine, ZOO Weekly. Ticking all the boxes in a blokes ‘ideal’ world, that magazine has it all, and you just wouldn’t believe what people are sending into magazines these day! Back again this week I’ll be finding myself over at ACP for a week pulling a few features together on Rolling Stone Magazine for the MIA Art Director that’s yet to find his way back from Splendor in the Grass.

Through August I’ll be working on a SuperX program for the up coming Australian SuperX series www.superx.com.au and then heading to Vietnam and Bali for a bit of văn hóa, thức ăn và uống rượu for the month of September.

Grant Keats

On the Retouching front, the last month has seen work come through the studio for fashion mag Elle, a catalogue for a hugenormous scandinavian clothing label RiccoVero, and I also helped out the one and only Ben Tuffy of Studio 5 Yeah Yeah fame with the ever impresisonable Mr Men magazine.

I have been spending some late nights and quality ink time with our spectacular poster printer. Canvas prints have been the flavour of the month, and we can now stretch, staple and varnish these things like you wouldn't believe.
We also produced some gorgeous A0 size prints for the lovely Elke Kramer and some other glorious prints that no doubt are being admired by zillions all over the globe.

And finally I have tracked down a product that I have been searching for years on end, I cant say much about it though stay excited because it will in all its glory change the world as we know it and form a creative wonderland for all to play!

STUDIO 6
Greedy Hen

Greedy Hen have just finished some artwork for a Washington record. It's Meg Washington being a lion.
If you're up Brisbane way, Greedy Hen are having an art exhibition with Dylan Martorell and Nathan Gray titled "cloudy muddy messy mucky crystal clear", at Metro Art from August 18th – September 8th 2009.
Also in August you can check out some of our hairy man chests painted onto a set of limited edition crockery at The Power House Museum for Design Week.
But the thing we're most excited about are some total sights for sore eyes music video clips we're currently making for bands The Middle East and Washington, coming out in a matter of months.

Elke Kramer

WE ARE DELIVERING NORTHERN HEMISPHERE WINTER 09.

For this new collection elke has picked up new world renowned stockists Colette in Paris and Opening Ceremony stores in New York, LA and japan..... very exciting!

This is a sneak peak of some of the styles, which australia will be seeing later in the year in new and summery colours for delivery in september 09 for our summer season

Elke has also been working on a project for the POWERHOUSE MUSEUM Eat Green Design (EGD) which is part of design week.

This was a project that involved various young artist's who had to design and assemble their own unique dinner set.
pictures are below of the work in progress, where decals had to be placed onto the dinner sets and then would be sent for firing which would then reveal the true colour of the design.

Kate Jinx

I've been keeping Helen's desk warm in Studio 8 this month, carving out a little space from which I haven't had much chance to move from. I spent July in a little haze of deadlines and coffee runs and coffee meetings (Single Origin is so close!).

Working right now on the new identity for Sound Summit, a music conference and performance festival that sits within the This Is Not Art umbrella. I'm really looking forward to it, some amazing bands both local and international are involved such as Ducktails and the Vivian Girls. The panels organised so far are looking mighty interesting too. An exciting project to take on, and an opportunity to work with people who really care about fostering local talent.

I've also taken some work doing graphic projects for a children's interior designer, erecting a tree out of vintage wallpaper and putting together some personalised wall hangings for their harbour home (no, no, not jealous at all!). And when I'm not making images, I'm writing all the live-long day, working on a big new publishing project which must remain a secret for now but let's just say it involves revisiting many of my favourite films...

Greedy Hen

Greedy Hen have been asked to DJ at the Throw Shapes relaunch as a blog night at World Bar, Wednesday July 1st.
We'll be merging with We Buy Your Kid's to form a mega super DJ team of extreme clashing musical tastes and Artistic glory.
We imagine WBYKs v's Greedy Hen will sound like the clashing of Nordic Dark Magical Beard Metal v's Footrot Flats soundtrack.
so basically it'll be equal portions horrible / fantastic, possibly even brilliant.

Also playing that night is our favourite calamity jam band Megastick Fanfare!

At Greedy Hen we like FBI Radio a whole lot, their musical musings make us feel all warm on the inside.
so to help them continue to spread the love and stay on air, we'll be exhibiting work in a charity Art auction at the Museum Of Contemporary Art, July 3rd,
with some of our favourite creative contemporaries including the likes of....
KRIS MOYES, THE KINGPINS, MS & MR, TARA MARYNOWSKY, WEBUYYOURKIDS, ELKE KRAMER, JAMES HANCOCK, SAMUEL HODGE, MARK DREW, and a whole lot of other rad artists we dig immensely.
all Art will be auctioned off at the MCA and online.
All proceeds go to keeping FBi Radio on-air.

ANOTHER MONTH!

- We shot our campaign for LOOK TWICE, our new amazing SS 09/10 jewellery collection, in the big BJB studio 9.
It was a rather late night with lots of Peroni and outfit changes, but the results were a roaring success.
Here are some preview images and some behind the scene shots.

- I have been invited to participate in the 'remaking of crockery for Eat Green Design', an experimental design/cafe project run by the Powerhouse Museum for their Sydney Design Festival. The amazing Greedy Hen girls are also involved and we are busy coming up with designs for the crockery to be used by the temporary customized restaurant.
it runs from the 1st - 16th August, and you can eat off our plates, enjoy the space and listen to talks by environmental innovators and designers
www.eatgreendesign.com www.sydneydesign.com.au.

- I have also been invited to be part of CLOUD19, an exhibition that will be part of Melbourne's 'The State of Design Festival', on the 15 - 25 July, at the Preston School of Industry. Opening night is Friday the 15th of July for anyone in Melbourne.
The exhibition follows a ‘not one style religion’ manifesto, a place where no specific style is set but a collaboration of different styles and forms. Its idea is to create an unexpected visual landscape of design pieces, to promote the ultimate state of happiness.
www.cloud19.com.au www.stateofdesign.com.au

- Off to Bali again! I will be working on production development for LOOK TWICE, beginning to design and sample next AW10 collection for both hemispheres and also to ride motorbikes besides glowing rice fields and swim in the ocean under an apricot sunset.

"Colour holds a special place in our collective consciousness. Different colours signify different things for each of us and when we see colour around us many factors affect how we interpret it, including cultural and personal preference. the presence or absence of colour in our daily dressing conveys something about us, something we might be choosing to communicate through our choice of colour or lack of colour. colour therapy is a series of photographic explorations through high intensity colour worn in ways that we don't often see around us and how this might inform the reality of our daily environment."

I have been spending my time:

Buying a new guitar. It’s a shiny black on black Fender M.I.J. ’72 Tele reissue. It sounds very nice.

Quitting jobs, starting jobs. I stopped writing the Brag music news, after 4 odd years. I started working on SOYA, reviewing books for Time Out, and drinking more coffee.

Going to parent teacher interviews. I had to step up in place of my scratchy English parents, for my 14 year old brother. I found out he gets nervous when giving Tech presentations, and made one silly mistake in a maths exam.

Getting a new pen. It’s green Uniball Vision RT 0.8. It writes like a dream. I already have it in red.

NUMBER FIVE IS ALIVE
This month sees the boys in studio5 come together as a collective group running under the name of Studio5 yeah yeah! With the gorgeous Michaella Solar-March moving onto her dream job at SPUNK Records, we struggled to find HUMAN replacement worthy to fill the vacant spot, so to fill the emptiness we invested in a large format Poster & Fine Art printer, and in respected memory called it Michaella.

YEAH YEAH?
Yeah thats right, Studio5 yeah yeah! will run as a digital & print media studio. Offering custom format printing, photography, high-end re touching, graphic/publishing design and Art direction.
Check our website www.studio5yeahyeah.com for all printing prices, paper stock and details, but be sure to check back on the 8th June for our complete site.

This was a bespoke one off pop-up book I made for Harpers Bazaar Australia. It was two weeks of solid work with a very tight deadline. It almost killed me, but the result was perfect and I was over the moon with it. I pulled an all nighter to meet the deadline. It was kool to spend the night working away with Kevina pottering outside my door. It made me feel more at home in the studio to work for 12 hours straight here. This project felt like the next step up the ladder in terms of my paper engineering skills and I was so proud when it was completed. Harpers were very impressed with the result and the whole office even gave me a round of applause!

Here is a movie of the pop up in action.

A teepee from me this month. Made from $2 shop bath mats, my current obsession.
Also, the beginnings of a porcelain light piece that I'm making by soaking material in porcelain slip. Very crafty.

Fast clicks of a camera squashed into a website, squished into headpieces

For the best part of this year, 3 things have played ring-a-rosy around my brain,
A mixed media exhibition involving jewelery fabricating out of a wolf falling into a puddle turning into a boy stuck on the moon film.
Turn ideas into flash into a world that you can click about.
Moments caught in photographs.

The exhibition is here, WALLFLOWER by WARFLOWER on the 28th MAY at BJB studios. Bridezilla are performing on the night, wearing customised headpieces, with new material from their upcoming album. A soiree of song singing angels...... They will play amongst the inside of a fantasy driven world with 50 unique headpieces exhibited.

The WEBSITE has finally launched at www.carastricker.com, where you can see each individual piece in the range.

Last month the best days were the Tuesdays, on those days I went to a lecture with my mother in the morning and we usually ate some description of cake after. I recently wrote feature articles for current and upcoming issues of Art Monthly Australia, Un Magazine, Yen, Stop Drop and Roll, SummerWinter and the AGNSW’s Look Magazine, and now I'm making stockings.
